The Dalai Lama when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered “Man…Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present. The Result? He does not live in the present or the future, he lives as if he is never going to die and then he dies having never really lived.

This city letter carrier posed for a humorous photograph with a young boy in his mailbag, 1900. After parcel post service was introduced in 1913, at least two children were sent by the service. With stamps attached to their clothing, the children rode with railway and city carriers to their destination. The Postmaster General quickly issued a regulation forbidding the sending of children in the mail after hearing of those examples.

Afternoon Delight at The Bridge Cafe

I don’t know under which rock I’ve been living for the past 8 months, but it meant that I did not know about the existence of The Bridge Cafe. Cleverly occupying the walkway between Cavendish House and Regency Arcade, this little gem of a cafe is ideal for daytime snacks, lunch or just a big frothy coffee and a book.

Speaking of books, they have two sets of shelves, with a great variety (incl children’s books) for linters to browse through.  And what more an inviting space do you need than that of large skylights letting the sunshine through? (see pictures)

Other highlights include their bulk coffee ground to order station (see pic) and their croissant-pudding slices. These bread-and-butter pudding inspired, apricot filled delights were so delicious there was no time to even get a picture in before they were devoured ;-)

Delightful enough to get me out from under my rock? Definitely!
